Braided Cords – The Christian Musicians Devotional

One of the most difficult aspects of doing music ministry in a Christian band is sticking together and having each other’s back. All too often music ministries are divided simply because we cannot figure out how to get along with each other. We don’t recognize that it’s all the little things that add up until it’s too late and a big blow out occurs.

Here is an excerpt from The Christian Musicians Devotional to help us pay attention to how we handle our relationships with band mates.

Braided  Cords

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:12  NLT

Being in a band is hard. Creating an extraordinary music ministry is even more difficult. But we can stack the deck in our favor with band members that are bound together like a cord. The relationships that make up this cord are precious and must be guarded with the utmost care.

We have all experienced and been trained to withstand external pressure—attacks from outside the ministry. This kind of attack causes us to close ranks and stand closer together. External pressure often makes a band partnership stronger.

So, attacks from within are the most effective way the enemy has to defeat your ministry. The ability to cause any kind of separation between band members is one of his best weapons. Our enemy is subtle; he starts small in seemingly unimportant ways… an irritation, an offhanded comment taken wrong, etc. We shake it off and go on our way, until something else happens. Then, the first offense arises to be joined with the second. Before you know it two band members aren’t as close as they used to be. They just don’t enjoy each others company as much as they used to, the joy of doing ministry together decreases. The separation begins and the enemy has won.

As Christian music ministers we say “NO!” to the enemy—“NO!” to separation from our brothers in ministry. We protect our brothers and partners and stay strong as a cord bound together. This cord will not be broken or defeated!

Prayer: Father, I love my band mates. They are my brothers in arms. Cause me to act on this love at all times. Give me the courage to do whatever it takes to protect our relationships.
